Dental Crowns & Bridges in Garden City, GA

You might struggle to chew properly, and it might even be difficult to speak correctly. A tooth that is missing also puts your healthy teeth at risk. A dental crown or bridge can restore your smile—and protect your oral health.

Talk to us at Lee J. Martin, DMD, about whether or not you need a dental crown or bridge to repair your missing or damaged teeth.

What Are Dental Crowns?

Dental crowns are a common tooth restoration that acts as a “cap” for your tooth. When a tooth has decay that goes too deep for a filling or other damage, a dental crown provides strength to protect it. A dental crown fits over the tooth like a helmet, meaning the tooth structure below has protection. You can chew normally because the crown was designed to absorb the force of chewing.

Situations that might warrant a dental crown include a tooth that has become fractured because of a large filling, a tooth that is misshapen, or a tooth that has had a root canal. Dental crowns are also used to hold a bridge in place.

All of our dental crowns are custom-made to match your adjacent teeth, so they blend in seamlessly for a completely natural look. Strong and durable, they will last you a good number of years.

Dental Crown Treatment at Lee J. Martin, DMD

It will take at least two appointments to restore your tooth with a dental crown. In the first appointment, Dr. Martin will prepare your tooth to receive the crown. After numbing the area, he will remove the damaged portion of the tooth before taking an impression. We will send the impressions to our lab, where they will create a crown that will fit the remaining tooth structure perfectly.

Once your permanent restoration arrives from the lab, you will come back to our office so we can place the crown. Dr. Martin will adjust it as needed to ensure it is comfortable when you bite down before he cements it into place.

What Are Dental Bridges?

If you are missing even one tooth, this can put the rest of your teeth at risk. When one tooth is missing, the remaining teeth tend to shift to fill in the empty space. This can compromise your bite and cause uneven wear on your teeth. It’s crucial to replace the gap in your smile, and a dental bridge is one way to do this.

A dental bridge is attached to dental crowns on either side of the space. This permanent tooth replacement means that your teeth are protected—and your chewing function is fully restored. You can smile and speak with confidence again.
